Peasants worked like slaves
It is true that the peasants worked hard, but it was not a punishment as many people would believe. Their social lives looked much like the working class of today. The games that they played and the festivals and tournaments that they attended was just a bit different. To relax, the medieval folk would play games like chess, dice and checkers and their tournaments revolved around jousting and sword fighting. Today, we play video games and go to live sports events and music concerts.
A time rife with violence
Although the Middle Ages had its fair share of violence, it is nothing compared to what we see today. Most of the rulers only resorted to violence if they had to protect their people. They were nothing compared to the power-hungry Hitlers, Stalins and Maos of recent history. The average medieval citizen would have lived in relative peace and never seen violence. There weren’t many serial killings to speak of either. The only two notable ones were Elizabeth Bathory and Gilles De Rais. Not even the inquisition was the bloodbath that it is depicted as today.
